Swerea IVF works with process, materials and press forming tools. The main effort is directed towards the sheet metal forming methods; deep drawing, stretch forming, hydro forming and roll forming. The work is often focussed on advanced materials such as ultra-high-strength steel and tailor blanks. Swerea IVF works with sheet metal forming for both prototype and serial production.
Swerea IVF can carry out and present material characterization, for example; stress-strain diagrams, Forming Limit Diagrams (FLD) and formability analyses. We can also help companies with optimization of tools/materials, simulation of the sheet metal forming process and analysis/evaluation of process problems.

In sheet metal processing, the tribological system is a result of the interaction between the sheet metal material, the tool, the lubricant, the process and the geometry of the product. When producing sheet metal details with dimensional accuracy it is necessary to control the friction between the sheet material and the press tool. Swerea IVF works accordingly with Deep Drawing Simulation (DDS) to evaluate combinations of tool materials, tool deposits, lubricants and sheet metal materials.

Swerea IVF is since 1991 organizing the network Plåtforum (Sheet Metal Forum). The forum today has about 100 member companies from Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Norway. As a member of Plåtforum you act as a part of a network for the sheet metal industry sector. The members quarterly receive the newsletter Noterat Utifrån (Seen from the outside) with Science and technology watch. The latest years the network has also a complementary addition available on internet, were data is preserved from earlier volumes. The member register makes it possible for the companies to find competences and equipment. The address register can also be used to get into contact with collaboration partners.
